This week's "Gaming with the Nation" is all about some Starcraft 2. I'd normally come up with some superficially clever way to frame the debate, but this is a rather special occasion. Since everyone is going to have a million opinions on any given Blizzard release, I don't need to find an angle on this topic. The only question I really need to answer for this blog entry is, "What on earth do I write about in the blog entry?"
My first answer was to just fill the blog with just "Starcraft 2" over and over again, but that seemed too cheap. So here are some other ideas to get the nation talking.
Put your opinion on the game within a limerick!
I can't build that ship, I must pass.
Because I can't farm enough gas.
my gathering units
can't seem to get to it
They're too busy gathering up glass.
(What? Where did you THINK I was going with that?)
OOOH! Or maybe a haiku!
Our hero should match
Raynor from the RTS.
Who is this fire plug?
Maybe it should be in the form of demotivational poster!
See the graphic above
Or, you know, you could just talk about it...
Let us know what you think about Starcraft 2!

I first heard it mentioned on Skype
I wasn't sure what had generated the hype
I then found what it was
And, at my own loss
I realized it wasn't my type.
People been waitin'
For some game that confuses
The hell out of me
It is sixty bucks
and I just spent my money
on Dragon Quest IX.
Also: there's a LAN feature that is missing that really shouldn't be missing. SC's ability to instantly transform a meh LAN party to an awesome LAN party is too great. And that's all I'm going to say about that.
This real time stategy
just isn't for me
I am not fond of Blizzard
And in terms of their games, I am no wizard
Maybe it's just me, or maybe it's the company
I might play the game
if I could craft some dang stars
but this is not true
Yikes, much dislike in these comments. I ain't no wordsmith, but Starcraft II is amazing!
Rushing straight to muta
All fear my gosu micro
Oh damn, Thor is here.
I agree with many of the sentiments those against this game have. No LAN/chatrooms does suck, and $60 does seem a bit steep.
But I love every single minute of it. True, as a non-chat/lanner I'm a bit biased, but still Starcraft 2 is a fantastic experience. Blizzard has taken the core concepts from SC1, refined refined refined, and produced a masterpiece of RTS gaming.
I've been a longtime fan of RTS, but have noticed most games or late swing towards one of two extremes, either macro heavy (Supreme Commander) or micro heavy (World in Conflict). Starcraft perfectly blends these concepts, and is a prime example of the adage "easy to play, hard to master".
The countless strategies, beautiful graphics, and Blizzard's reputation for heavy post-release support make me believe this game will succeed for years to come.
And a note for those complaining about the $60 price tag, I've recently seen Inception, Salt, and The Other Guys. That's about 6 hours I reckon for $60 and I'm sorry, but if you only get 6 hours of enjoyment out of SC2 you're doing it wrong.
Starcraft 2,
Starcraft 2,
The game that I have been waiting for so long
Oh why,
Oh why,
Did it took so long?
I just got it today
The game that I waited for so long
It almost the same
Like Starcraft 1
There are no francis new mechanic
Or new race
But it is still fun
Because it still a good game

Ok, sorry I'm not clever enough for a limerick or a haiku...
I'm no huge Blizzard fan, in fact, StarCraft II is really the first game I played that they made. At first, I didn't know if I would like an rts, but I played the demo and I can honestly say I really like the game. Yeah, the graphics aren't the best for this generation, but that wont stop me from wanting to buy the stupid $60 game. The only thing stopping me is also wanting other games for the pc and being a poor college student, I wont be able to buy it for a while. I can't really compare it to StarCraft I because I didn't play it, but even if it is the "same thing", how many games do you know that are sequels that are NOT the "same thing"? I mean, there are TONS of games out there that the sequel is the same darn thing as the original one, except the story is different, and they changed around the controls or something like that. In my opinion, there is no reason for a PC gamer to not try out this game. It's not bad at all. I know I'll be waiting eagerly to be able to play the whole game, but I think I might have to wait a year or so until it comes down in price.
