CP 88: Through The Orange Door

Posted by Brent Copeland On - - 23 comments

Come on in and listen to our interview with TheOrangeDoor about the functional Sentry gun that he built out of LEGOs. Also there's some discussion about the drama that Valve has been creating regarding cheaters. Topping off this episode is our first live call-in segment. It's action packed I tell you!

Congrats. Finally, you guys are known by the rest of the TF2 community. It's funny listening to you guys ramble about how Valve doesn't know you after the blog came out.

I guess Valve does like to tease people.

  5. Fredrik1ST says:

Haha! Your community weapons are on their way ;)

  6. WesWilson says:

  11. G-Ret says:

I can't agree that the people using the idler were as you say "Bad kids", because most people were persuaded into it by the big though "You won't get in trouble, it's not breaking any rules."

  12. St Louis KenDog says:

  15. SgtRlee says:

Enjoying the show, it's currently on the discussion about the cheaters in TF2 and the halos and i have to say that my brother doesn't cheat, but somehow wasn't given the halos like he is a cheater, which he isn't to happy about. I have them but won't use them because i think it's silly, i mean why not give all the non-cheaters a choice of one hat, which would have been great since i'm dying for that 10 gallon white engie hat bigtime :D
    (first time listener)

  16. pearse phillips says:

If valve decided that idling apps were against their tos then thats fine. take away the items. The problem is how valve dealt with the whole situation.

1- Calling idlers cheaters. We all know that people who use aim bots are cheaters, please dont put idlers in the same boat. idlers did not cheat in the least, no more then achievement farmers.

2- Giving out halos defeated the point of rare hats. now that the majority of players have a hat, they are no longer rare

3- Not punishing all idlers. valve only punished people who used the app, not the people who went to idle servers. Whats the difference? there is none, except that one doesnt waste so much electricity.
    people who got rewarded are.
people who resisted the urge to use the idle app
people who didnt know about it
    people who used idle servers.

4- You say idlers are whining, well don't be so one sided, people with halos believe they have some moral high ground.

5- Valve caused this, with the random unlock system. when you play tf2 for weeks with only getting kritzergs, then what else do you do.
if you want to use your cookie analogy then the mother would serve food randomly, one day you may get nothing, the next day you may only get a tub of salt. so the children would have to resort to stealing the cookie

6- Valve wasted time doing this. When theres more important things to get done, the various performance issues spring to mind.

if valve took away the weapons, people would of complained, ofcourse. But, valve didnt do just that, they pissed off a large portion of the community, for no good reason.
they just handled the whole situation badly.

i personally dont care that my weapons got taken away, its the attitude from people like you who mindlessly claim "they cheated".

    :)

  20. Nolan says:

i love how VALVe calls the podcast a TF2 related podcast, rather than a TF2 podcast, because really, it isnt.

  21. If I hadn't checked the TF2 blog that day. I wouldn't be listening to the podcast now. :D

  22. Hogbreath says:

Like the call-ins. It was a little rough, but hope you keep that up in future episodes as I catch up.

I had no issues with the full episode.

  23. [...] No, it's not French, it's LEGOs. Hundreds and hundreds of LEGOs. See, if TheOrangeDoor's name sounds familiar to you, it's probably because you heard about that time when he made a LEGO level 2 Sentry Gun that actually tracks motion and fires (relatively harmless) bullets at anything that moves. For serious. [...]
